DSS Residence
Located in the village of Rayapettai, the DSS Residence is conceived as a family home that engages closely with its rural setting. The design draws from traditional architectural principles, reinterpreted through a contemporary material palette of exposed brick and concrete.A continuous verandah wraps around all four sides of the house, acting as a transitional buffer between interior and exterior. This spatial layer not only enhances thermal comfort by reducing direct heat gain but also creates shaded, inhabitable edges that extend daily living outward.Openings are strategically placed to maximize natural light and cross ventilation, with full-height windows and brick arches adding both spatial depth and structural articulation. The architecture remains simple and grounded, relying on proportion, material honesty, and climate responsiveness rather than formal excess.
Techniques: Exposed brick masonry with concrete elements, integrated verandah system, full-height openings, and brick arch detailing.
