Swagatam Guesthouse, Auroville
The Swagatam Guest House expansion introduces additional guest facilities by vertically extending three existing blocks, adding three new suites above the original structures.
Rather than treating the extension as a separate layer, the design redefines the architectural language of the campus. Sloping roofs with Mangalore tiles are introduced over the previously flat-roofed blocks, creating a cohesive and climate-responsive identity while improving thermal performance.
The intervention balances structural integration with visual transformation, allowing the new additions to sit comfortably over the existing buildings while establishing a clearer architectural character for the campus.Techniques: Composite structural system with RCC sloping roofs for the suites. Corridor roofs are constructed using RCC rafters with wooden purlins, finished with Mangalore tiles.
