Vasuki House, Auroville

Vasuki House, located in the Angiras Garden community of Auroville, is a residence for Vasundhara, Sushir, and Kiran. The design draws inspiration from a modest 10 sq.m thatch-roof hut that once served as Kiran’s initial dwelling, translating its simplicity and intimacy into a more permanent architectural form. The house retains a grounded, minimal expression, where spatial comfort emerges from proportion, material, and climate responsiveness rather than excess. Exposed brickwork defines the visual language, while flat arch lintels subtly articulate openings. The combination of flat and sloping roofs creates a balance between functional efficiency and thermal performance, responding to Auroville’s tropical context.

Techniques:Composite structural system with exposed brick masonry, flat arch lintels, and RBC flat roofs. Sloping roof sections are constructed using RCC framing with Mangalore tile roofing.
